Govt. ITI Hiranagar was established during 1960, the one of the oldest institute of the state, to import the Technical Training to the qualified youth of Kathua region. Initially the institue was started with the following traditional technical courses with sanctioned intake capacity of 16 seats in each course:-
(1) Stenography (English), (2) Welding, (3)
Cutting & Tailoring,(4) Carpentry,(5) Fitter, (6) Turner,(7) Painter (General) & (8) Electrician. In 1960, the courses started in the rented building of the Govt. Industrial Estate Hiranagar and some in private building.After 30 years, in 1960, the department constructed its own building as per DGE&T norms and shifted in new building in 1960.
